Car accident at the end of August leads to the death of a woman at the weekend

PHOENIX — A woman has died from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash in Phoenix in late August, authorities said Wednesday.

According to Phoenix police, 25-year-old Marisa Zermeno was injured in a multi-vehicle crash near 39th Avenue and Monte Vista Road on August 23.

Phoenix Fire Department paramedics took her to a hospital. Zermeno fought for her life for two weeks before she died last Saturday surrounded by her family, police said.

What led to the car accident at the end of August?

The three-vehicle collision occurred as Zermeno was driving north on 39th Avenue.

A car traveling west on Monte Vista Road attempted to turn left at the intersection.

The impact caused Zermeno's car to spin. It hit a third vehicle and rolled over several times, police said.

According to a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for funeral expenses, Zermeno was on her way to her mother's house with her young daughter when the accident happened. Zermeno's daughter was in critical condition after the accident but survived and was released from the hospital.

The driver of the car that first collided with Zermeno's vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the third car that Zermeno's vehicle collided with after the first collision reported no injuries, police said.

Zermeno's friends and family will host a fundraiser this Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Hall in Tolleson.
