Live updates after Category 2 storm makes landfall in Louisiana

The American Red Cross is preparing food and supplies and planning to repair the aftermath of Hurricane Francine.

“In front of me I see … semi-trailers packed to the brim with food, but also non-perishable meals, snacks, cots, cleaning kits and things that people need immediately after a disaster,” Stephanie Fox, spokeswoman for the American Red Cross, told AccuWeather.

Fox said once it is safe, the American Red Cross will assess the damage, provide shelter and meals and talk to local authorities to determine which areas are hardest hit – from coastal Louisiana to states like Arkansas and Missouri.

She also said the Red Cross's biggest concern is that people take the storm seriously.

“Please do not travel later today,” Fox said. “Stay in your accommodation.”

If you need shelter or disaster assistance, you can call the Red Cross at 800-RED-CROSS. The nonprofit also recommends visiting and downloading the Red Cross emergency app.
