Caitlin Clark leaves her post in pain after taking an elbow to the face while A'ja Wilson makes WNBA history in Aces' win over Fever

Caitlin Clark suffered a nasty blow to the face after a collision with Jackie Young during the Indiana Fever's 86-75 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday night.

The No. 1 overall pick could be seen holding her tongue as she doubled over in pain after taking an elbow strike.

Clark was briefly forced off the field before Young was penalized for the collision.

To make matters worse, Clark and the Fever had to endure another record-breaking performance from A'ja Wilson.

The reigning WNBA Finals MVP broke the single-season scoring record with her 940th and 941st points on a jump shot just before halftime. The milestone was reached after Wilson missed her first game since 2019 on Sunday due to an ankle injury.

A'ja Wilson broke the WNBA season record for most points as she led the Aces to victory

Las Vegas lost the game in a thrilling fashion against the New York Liberty, but came back with momentum against Indiana.

Wilson's performance broke the previous record set by Jewell Loyd in 2023 with 939 points.

Clark was hit after dribbling the ball 28 yards and attempting a reverse layup in the second half of the third quarter.

As the ball went up, Young blocked the rebound and accidentally hit Clark – who was not yet on her feet – in the face. As she came down, Clark apparently hit Young in the face as well, as her right hand came down after the layup attempt.

The Aces guard fell on Clark as they both hit the hardwood and the ball bounced off the rim.

Both players remained lying on their backs on the ground, wincing in pain before finally getting up.

After seeing that both players involved had made contact, Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon challenged the call, but her request was denied.

Nevertheless, the defending champions had the last laugh and left Indiana in the dust. Wilson shone with a performance of 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Chelsea Gray finished behind her with 11 points among the starters. Meanwhile, Alysha Clark and Tiffany Hayes came off the bench with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

On the other hand, Kelsey Mitchell was the Fever's best player with 24 points, followed by Clark with 15 points and six assists. Despite a low-scoring game, Aliyah Boston trailed Wilson with 10 rebounds.

With the win, Las Vegas is now 23-13, fourth in the league and second in the Western Conference, while the sixth-seeded Fever climbed to 19-18.

Indiana has three games left and Las Vegas has four. The teams meet again on Friday for their final meeting of the regular season.
