Fans react to Teddy Swim's shortened performances at the 2024 MTV VMAs

Tonight, music lovers from across the country tuned in to watch the 2024 MTV VMAs. Many of those fans wanted to see Teddy Swims perform. Although he performed, he didn't get much screen time. Swims took over the Doritos Extended Stage and didn't get the chance to sing an entire song during the broadcast.

Swims first performed his hit song “Lose Control.” However, after only about thirty seconds, the show went to a commercial break. He later appeared a second time to perform “The Door.” Again, he was on screen for less than a minute before the show moved on to something else. It was just enough to give everyone a taste of his vocal abilities.

Fans who had hoped that Swims would wow the crowd with his powerful voice and soulful delivery were disappointed, to say the least, and took to social media to voice their grievances.

Old and new fans of Teddy Swims have their say

“I can't believe Teddy Swim's performance is on a little Doritos side stage and DJ Khaled jumps on the main stage where he shouldn't be,” tweeted one fan.

“They need to stop cutting off real singers…” said another.

There were many more tweets from people expressing their frustration with the shortened performances. But it wasn't all negative. His fans expressed a lot of affection for the “Funeral” singer.

Another called him a “palate cleanser” between other acts. Many others agreed, saying he deserved to be on the main stage.

Perhaps more importantly, these brief appearances were enough to win Swims some new fans.

“They're doing everyone a favor by having Teddy Swims sing a quarter of every song because he effortlessly outshines them. I'm honestly amazed. I didn't know his game,” said one viewer.

Another viewer, who had not previously heard of Swims, said: “…after his performance, he should be the best new artist and not the people there. It should be him, Tyla and Shaboozey.”

Swims fans are not goalies. Instead, they are happy that more people are recognizing his talent. “You're all finally jumping on the Teddy Swims bandwagon,” one fat guy remarked.
