Looking back at the leaks from the Apple event: We pretty much knew everything, right?

Every year when big tech events come around, we're bombarded with leaks and rumors. In fact, it's an entire industry. An industry that was recently played with when Nothing leaked fake renders to get revenge. But the Apple event in September that just took place seemed to be completely leaked in advance, making it the most boring iPhone reveal ever for many people. We have a tonne Information – especially from Bloomberg's Apple insider Mark Gurman – about both the iPhone and other products. Which leaks were correct? Were there any inaccurate leaks at all? Let's go through the most important ones and compare them.

The new camera button for the iPhone

Perhaps the biggest leak before the event revolved around the new camera button. Everyone could guess that Apple Intelligence would come to the iPhone 16, but a completely new camera feature was almost unheard of. There were even rumors about the vertical arrangement of the cameras on the back.

We spotted this leak back in January of this year. Not long after, we saw dummies and cases showing the new button and camera layout. Eventually, more details came to light and basically everything we knew about it turned out to be true, right down to the photography controls it offers you. Part of me thinks Apple might be in on it just to get those who aren't convinced about AI excited about the new iPhone.

Desert Titanium color for the iPhone 16 Pro

“What new colour will come into the iPhone16?” This question has had the leak industry abuzz for the past few weeks. Leak after leak hinted at a bronze or gold color, or a mix of the two. Turns out, once again, we pretty much knew everything. The rumors said it would be called “Desert Titanium,” and it is. They claimed it would be some kind of bronze, and they were right. The rumors said it would be exclusive to the Pro models in titanium finish, and, you guessed it, it is. Personally, I really like this new color, but the leak industry has definitely taken the edge off the suspense.

Even bigger screens

Spot on again. Leaked spec sheets claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro would measure 6.3 inches and the Pro Max 6.9 inches. That's exactly how big the new phones are, which is in line with the industry's mission to make their phones resemble the first tablets. Personally, I don't think that's a bad thing. I always go for the biggest display I can get my hands on. I'll buy pants with bigger pockets if I have to. And I have!

4K 120fps video on iPhone 16

One of the last big leaks claimed that the iPhone 16 will record video in 4K 120fps. Well, what do you know? That turned out to be true too. However, I had incorrectly predicted that this would be used for ultra-smooth video and not slow motion recording. I was wrong, it is definitely intended for filming your cat jumping in slow motion.

No Macs or iPads at the event

Speaking of Gurman, he also wondered if Apple would talk about Mac or iPad at the event. He thought the event would be so packed with other areas of interest that Apple might just postpone the announcements of new Macs and iPads to another event next month.

That seems to be the case, as we didn't get any news on either product line at the September event. Gurman did reveal some details about the new M4 Mac mini. Reportedly, it will feature a healthy selection of ports rather than removing them for a sleeker look, which many will surely appreciate.

I'm sure I missed a few leaks that further suggest that there was little that was unexpected at the event. Overall, this event definitely lacked the excitement and energy that you normally expect from Apple.

It was… okay. But nothing groundbreaking. Maybe because half the reason for recording a iPhone16 – Apple Intelligence – will not be available in large regions of the world.
