Former USC running back and 2005 Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush was the victim of an attempted burglary Tuesday night, police told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday. According to a police report obtained by the Times, three men dressed in black broke a window in Bush's home but disappeared before police arrived. Nothing was stolen from the Bushes' home during the attempted burglary.

“Everyone is safe,” Bush said in a text message to the Times.

Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 with 2,200 yards from scrimmage and 18 touchdowns, but the honor was stripped in 2010 after an NCAA investigation found he had received improper benefits during his time with the Trojans.

However, when the NCAA revised its name, image and likeness policies in 2021, the Heisman Trophy Trust began pushing to overturn the decision. On April 24 of this year, he was reinstated and introduced as USC's seventh Heisman winner.

“I am grateful to be recognized once again as a recipient of the Heisman Trophy,” Bush told reporters after the ceremony. “This reinstatement is not only a personal victory, but also a recognition of the tireless efforts of my supporters and advocates who have stood by me throughout this arduous journey.”

Bush was a two-time All American, two-time AP National Champion, Doak Walker Award and Walter Camp Award winner at USC. His No. 5 jersey was retired by the program. Following his college career, he was selected No. 2 by the New Orleans Saints, where he was an All-Pro punt returner and Super Bowl champion. His NFL career included stints with the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills before retiring in 2017.
