::Taylor Swift calls on fans to vote at the MTV VMAs

“Thank you MTV for giving me the opportunity to thank the fans, to thank you for what you've done. And the fact that this is a fan-voted award and you voted for it. I really appreciate it. And if you're over 18, please register to vote for something else that's very important to me. It's the U.S. presidential election. I love you.”

“Thank you to MTV for giving me the opportunity to thank the fans… And the fact that this is a fan-voted award and you voted for it. I really appreciate it. And if you're over 18, please register to vote for something else that's very important to me. It's the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election,” Swift said as her urgent call to action was met with deafening cheers.

Shortly after Vice President Kamala Harris ended the debate with her Republican rival Donald Trump on Tuesday evening (September 10), Swift told her 283 million Instagram followers that Harris and her running mate Tim Walz would receive her vote in the November 5 election. Her Instagram post received more than 9 million likes from fans and celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, US basketball star Caitlin Clark and Selena Gomez.

The post urged first-time voters to be sure to register to vote. A spokesperson for the U.S. General Services Administration reported Wednesday that the vote.gov page received 337,826 visitors from a custom URL shared by Swift.
