Linkin Park performs its first full show since 2017 in LA: See full setlist

Linkin Park is back and it means business. The newly formed band, with Emily Armstrong stepping in as lead singer, played their first full show since the death of former frontman Chester Bennington on Wednesday night at LA's Kia Forum. And if it seemed that the very brief international tour the group is embarking on would be just a repeat of the abbreviated livestream set they used to announce the new lineup last week, that notion was dashed with a jam-packed 27-song show that lasted just over two hours.

The Forum show included all the hits the band played during that 50-minute livestream, broadcast from a soundstage in front of a small live audience. But it also included 10 songs that weren't played in that teaser show, including some relatively unknown songs and two songs, “Keys to the Kingdom” and “Friendly Fire,” that had never been played live before in any context, with or without Bennington.

Although there was a lot of controversy surrounding Armstrong's hiring—from issues some fans had with her as a person to the very idea of ”replacing” Bennington and moving on at all—the 17,000 or so fans in the forum clearly signaled their approval of her joining the band with a sustained roar that roughly matched their own.

No new material was introduced, the only freshly produced song being the new single “The Emptiness Machine,” which was already heard on the webcast and was well received as the only teaser for the band's upcoming comeback album, “From Zero.” But co-frontman Mike Shinoda made promises about how much fans will like it when they hear it on November 15.

The short tour will continue with another U.S. show at New York's Barclays Center on September 16, followed by four more dates in Germany, the UK, South Korea and Colombia later this month and in November. These six dates are just a warm-up, albeit an arena-sized warm-up, as a full tour is set to follow in 2025. The band hinted in a new Billboard cover story that stadium dates are on the cards for their return.

A detailed review of the concert follows in diversity.
