Taylor Swift wins Video of the Year award at the VMAs for “Fortnight”

Taylor Swift won the top prize at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, winning Home Video of the Year for her self-directed music video “Fortnight” on Wednesday (September 11). And during her acceptance speech, she thanked Travis Kelce and reminded fans to vote in the upcoming presidential election.

After accepting her latest effort, “Moon Person,” from host and presenter Megan Thee Stallion and bringing her duet partner Post Malone onstage, the 34-year-old pop singer told the audience that “directing, putting together and writing this video was the most wonderful experience.”

She also screamed Dead Poets Society Actors Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, “who had amazing cameos” in the video, and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, who “made an extra effort to work with female directors.” “When you watch this video, it seems very sad, but it was actually the most fun,” Swift continued, before sharing an adorable memory of filming on set.

“I always heard someone cheering from across the studio, like 'Whoo!' – that one person was my friend Travis,” the 14-time Grammy winner recalled, drawing shrill screams from fans in the audience at New York's UBS Arena. “Everything that man touches turns into happiness, fun and magic, so I want to thank him for bringing that to our shoot.”

The “Karma” singer also acknowledged her fans with a well-deserved thank you for supporting her worldwide Eras tour and The “Tortured Poets” section album release, which spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Fueled by the momentum of her headline-grabbing support for Kamala Harris the day before, Swift then left her fans with an important reminder.

“If you are over 18, please register to vote in another very important vote coming up,” she said with a pointed smile.

Earlier in the evening, Swift and Posty also won the award for best collaboration for the video “Fortnight,” which was released on April 19, along with TTPDAfter Wednesday night, the musician – who was the most nominated person at the 2024 ceremony – is now the most awarded VMAs artist in history.
