Death of man on highway in Oglethorpe County remains under investigation

The death of a man who was struck by a large truck on a state highway in Oglethorpe County on Aug. 30 remains under investigation, authorities said Wednesday.

“We are still actively investigating the case,” said Oglethorpe County Deputy Coroner Robert McCurley.

The body was sent to the state crime lab and McCurley said that part of the investigation is still pending.

The death was reported shortly before 2 a.m. on Georgia Highway 22 in an area near Salem Church Road south of Lexington.

The Georgia State Patrol identified the pedestrian as Dalvin Devante Daniels, 29, of Washington in Wilkes County.

Police previously reported that the pedestrian was lying in the middle of the highway and his body was lying across both lanes. The reason for this is unknown, GSP reported.

A 38-year-old Athens man was driving a truck and trailer from Pilgrim's Pride westbound when he did not see the man and struck him, according to the report. The driver pulled over to the shoulder of the road after the impact and called 911.
