Active shooter reported in Denver apartment complex, suspect in custody and woman injured

BROOMFIELD, Colorado (KKTV) – Residents of a Broomfield apartment complex sheltered in place while police searched for an active shooter.

Police said they were called to the Arista Flats at 8200 Arisa Pl. around 6:30 a.m. There were reports of a disturbance. A Broomfield Police spokesperson said it was an “active shooting” because when officers arrived at the scene they heard a man making threats and then heard gunshots. Shots were reportedly fired into a parking lot and at officers. An emergency alert was sent out to nearby residents.

Police forced entry into the apartment and arrested the suspect after an exchange of gunfire. A female victim and the suspect were taken to the hospital.

The suspect has not been publicly identified.

The condition lasted about four hours.
