Officials say the lockdown at Foley High School was a precautionary measure, but no weapons or threats were found

FOLEY, Alabama (WALA) – Police and school officials provided an update this afternoon explaining the incident that led to the lockdown at Foley High School this morning.

They said a teacher heard comments from students that were believed to involve a gun and raised an alarm. The alarm alerted police and led to the school being placed on lockdown.

Foley Police Chief Thurston Bullock said officers arrived and the investigation revealed no weapons and there was no fight at the school as reported. Officers found no threat and said all students and staff are safe.

Because of the incident, the school was closed early from noon.

Foley police warned against rumors and misinformation: “Images are circulating and being shared on social media that are old photos and are not from today's incident at Foley High School. In fact, some of the images we have seen were not even taken on the Foley High School campus.”
