NWS confirms tornado in southern Jefferson County earlier this week

TOWN OF WORTH, NY (WWTI) – The National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed early Thursday afternoon that the tornado struck the town of Worth in southern Jefferson County on Monday, September 9.

The NWS said the storm began at 5:15 p.m. and lasted two minutes. The tornado's strength was EF-0 and its path length was 0.1 miles. The storm's width was 50 yards, but the wind speed was unknown.

Thanks to clear days and the polar-orbiting Sentinel-2 satellite, the weather service was able to confirm the tornado.

This tornado was the 32nd in New York State; the Buffalo office confirmed 14.
