Trial of man accused of killing four University of Idaho students takes place in Boise

The trial of Bryan Kohberger, accused of killing four University of Idaho students, is taking place in Ada County.

The Idaho Supreme Court announced its decision on Thursday and appointed Judge Steven Hippler as presiding judge in the case.

Kohberger's defense attorneys expressed concerns that the jury was biased, based on evidence from a poll they commissioned.

On Monday, a judge granted a motion to change venue in the case, but left the decision on where the trial will take place and who will preside to the state Supreme Court. A spokesperson for the Ada County Sheriff's Office told CBS2 that the timing of Kohberger's transfer to Ada County will remain confidential for security reasons. The timeline for his potential transfer is not yet clear, but we will continue to update this story as we learn more.

In his ruling Monday, a judge said the evidence indicated a “reasonable probability” that biased reporting would harm Kohberger's chances of a fair trial in Latah County.

The family of one of the victims, Kaylee Goncalves, said in a statement that they were “incredibly disappointed” by the decision.

The family further stated that they had the impression that the judge had ruled in favor of the defense.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information.
