Forest fire leads to closure of a highway in the Eastern Plains of Colorado

Both directions of I-76 have reopened after a closure northeast of Denver Thursday afternoon due to a wildfire. The interstate was closed between Rye (9 miles east of Keenesburg) and CO 52, and CO 39 (14 miles west of Fort Morgan) from Mile Point 48 to Mile Point 66.

From 4 p.m. all lanes will be reopened

The Colorado Department of Transportation camera captured smoke from the wildfire crossing the highway.

CBS News Colorado First Alert Meteorologists have Thursday First weather warning day with high fire risk from the Denver metropolitan area across the eastern plains of Colorado to parts of the mountains and western slope of Colorado.

The Red Flag Warning is in effect from Thursday noon to 8 p.m. At the time of the fire, winds gusting between 15 and 35 mph were blowing in the Wiggins area.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
