UFC Paris loses former champion Germaine de Randamie from the fight card

Injuries have forced former UFC champion Germaine de Randamie to cancel her scheduled fight in Paris.

On Thursday, de Randamie (10-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) announced in an Instagram post that she broke a finger and foot two weeks ago, leading to her withdrawal from UFC Fight Night 243 on September 28.

“It breaks my heart to tell you that I had to cancel my fight on September 28th in Paris,” de Randamie wrote. “… We didn't want to take any chances and give you a hell of a fight. It breaks my heart especially because I'm nearing the end of my fighting career and wanted to share this with my friends and family who were planning to be in the arena. I had a plan, but God has decided differently this time. I will get back in the gym as soon as the doctor gives me the green light. And I really hope the UFC gives me my fight before the end of the year. Thank you for all your support and kind words. I will come back and do what I set out to do. 'Die with memories, not dreams.'”

de Randamie was supposed to compete in the women's bantamweight division against the French Nora Cornolle (8-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC). The gap will be filled by Jacqueline Cavalcanti (7-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC). Both fighters in the new duel confirmed the booking on social media after an initial report from Ag. Fight.

De Randamie, 40, has competed just once in nearly four years. A former UFC women's featherweight champion, de Randamie has competed just twice, losing the women's featherweight title in December 2019 due to injuries and pregnancy.
