LMPD searches for suspects accused of attacking TARC drivers

The Louisville Metro Police Department is searching for two men suspected of attacking TARC drivers in two separate incidents. “They went to work to do an honest job, to get paid honestly, and they were attacked,” Lillian Brents said. Police are searching for two TARC passengers accused of attacking two drivers. On Aug. 22, a man in a purple shirt allegedly delivered a sly punch to the face of a TARC driver in the NuLu area. In another incident on Sept. 8, a man in a white shirt allegedly punched and spit on the driver in the area of 5th and Broadway. “Never in your life would you think you're putting your life in danger on this job,” Brents said. Brents is the president of ATU Local 1447. She used to be a bus driver herself. “Being involved in the community and getting people from point A to point B is very fulfilling,” Brents said. Speaking to the drivers, she said they were pretty shaken up. “For one thing, they just say, 'I'm a bus driver, I shouldn't be threatened, whether it's a physical attack or someone spitting on me,'” Brents said. Now, she and TARC COO Rob Stephens are urging community members to come forward if they know of anything. “One attack is too many. So we really try to take care of our drivers, and when it happens, we want to bring full attention to it and bring those responsible to justice,” Stephens said. “We want to know that the community is stepping up and helping us prosecute these people who are committing these attacks and get them off the streets,” Brents said. The suspects will be charged with fourth-degree assault when arrested. If you have any information, please call LMPD's anonymous tip line: 502-574-LMPD (5673).
