Video claims to show an Ohio woman killing and eating a cat – but she is not a migrant in Springfield

A gruesome video has emerged showing a bloodied woman allegedly caught killing and eating a cat in Ohio – but she is neither a Haitian migrant nor is she anywhere near Springfield.

Alexis Ferrell, 27, was arrested and charged on August 16 after distraught witnesses called 911 to report that they allegedly saw her eating the cat in a neighborhood outside Canton, WHIO reported.

Recently released footage of last month's gruesome ordeal garnered increasing attention after former President Donald Trump and others amplified false rumors that Haitian immigrants were eating pets in the city of Springfield, Ohio – about 150 miles and two hours from where Ferrell was caught.

Bodycam video of Ferrell's arrest shows police arriving to find her on all fours, devouring the animal.

“What did you do? Why did you kill the cat?” an officer is heard saying.

Ferrell, who had allegedly tortured and killed the cat just moments earlier in front of horrified onlookers, was covered in its blood, police said.

She was handcuffed and slapped and faced a litany of charges, including pet ban, animal cruelty and disorderly conduct.

The details of Ferrell's arrest come as falsehoods about Haitian immigrants in Springfield are spreading online, with some even claiming the bodycam footage is proof of vicious animal-eating rumors.

Ferrell is not Haitian, the outlet noted.

She was born in Ohio and graduated from McKinley High School in Canton in 2015, records show.

These allegations were reinforced earlier this week when Trump said during the presidential debate that migrants in Springfield had kidnapped and eaten pets.

“They eat the dogs. They eat the cats. They eat the pets of the people who live there,” the Republican candidate said.

The debate moderators immediately checked his statements and pointed out that, according to city officials, the allegations were not true.

Trump's comments, however, echoed statements made by his campaign team, which included his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, and other Republicans.

Springfield City Manager Bryan Heck refuted these rumors, saying there were “no credible reports of specific allegations that pets belonging to individuals from the immigrant community have been injured or mistreated.”

Meanwhile, Ferrell – who is being held in the Stark County Jail on $100,000 bail – has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and is scheduled to face a competency hearing on October 15.
