Checkpoint leads to arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs

On 8 September^th2024, at approximately 6:43 p.m., an officer with the Southern Shores Police Department conducted a stop on S. Dogwood Trail at Mallard Cove Loop. During this stop, officers found reasonable suspicion to arrest a driver for driving under the influence. Upon further investigation, officers seized cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Sunny Berle, 40, of Southern Shores, North Carolina, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Berle was taken to the Dare County Detention Center and held on $4,000 bail.
