September 12, 2024 – A 19-year-old Van Nuys man is being held on $4.1 million bail after being charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday on Ocean Park Beach.

Police responded to the 1900 block of Ocean Avenue after receiving a 911 call shortly after 1:30 p.m. reporting a recent assault with a deadly weapon.

“The caller, a friend of the victim, reported that a male suspect shot the victim multiple times and fled the scene,” said Lt. Erika Aklufi, police department spokeswoman.

Officers arrived at the scene “within minutes” and “arrested several people as they attempted to flee,” Aklufi said.

“Other officers provided first aid to the 24-year-old victim until paramedics arrived.”

The victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is in serious but stable condition, police said.

One of those arrested, Isaac Santiago Ramos, was clearly identified as the shooter, according to police. He was in possession of a concealed pistol.

“Witnesses told officers that Ramos and four other young men approached two of the victim's friends as they sat in the 2000 block of the beach and that an argument ensued,” Aklufi said.

“Ramos pulled out a gun and the victim attempted to intervene. Ramos shot the victim several times before fleeing eastbound.”

Ramos was arraigned on Tuesday on charges of attempted murder, assault, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $4,105,000.
