Bail set at $5,000 for Cheyenne man charged with strangulation

A Laramie County District Court judge on Tuesday set bail at $5,000 cash for a 44-year-old Cheyenne man accused of strangling a household member.

According to a booking sheet, police were executing an arrest warrant at 2610 Dillon Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September 9, when Timothy James Burney emerged from the back door of the apartment.

Burney was contacted by police, handcuffed and searched. He was reportedly found in possession of suspected methamphetamine and a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue.

Burney arrested on warrant

According to the police command, it confirmed that Burney had an arrest warrant out in Laramie County for strangulation of a household member, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and domestic violence.

District Judge Antoinette Williams signed the arrest warrant on September 3, 2024.

Burney was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, where he was booked without incident and appeared in court the next morning on the two charges.

Burney is scheduled to return to Circuit Court for his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, September 18 at 3:30 p.m.
