Michigan City man sentenced to over 7 years in prison for drug and weapons offenses

Demetrius Roberson, 51, of Michigan City, Indiana, was sentenced to 88 months in prison for drug and firearms offenses. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Damon R. Leichty after Roberson pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cocaine with intent to resell and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to U.S. Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.

Roberson's prison sentence will be followed by three years' probation.

Court documents show that Roberson sold cocaine seven times between December 2022 and February 2023, totaling about two ounces. A search of his home in February 2023 uncovered nearly 400 grams of cocaine, a pound of marijuana, two handguns and over $5,000 in cash.

Roberson's conviction underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession in the region.
