Teenager who appeared in Freddie Flintoff's 'Field of Dreams' show dies

An 18-year-old who appeared in Freddie Flintoff's BBC television series “Field of Dreams” has died in an accident.

Umar Mahmood was driving an Audi A3 Sport when it left the road and crashed into trees on Chain Caul Way in Preston at around 10.55pm BST on Tuesday. A 16-year-old boy who was in the back seat of the vehicle was also killed.

Mr Mahmood was one of a group of young cricketers from Lancashire who played at the BBC series, whose broadcast ended earlier this month.

His former school, Penwortham Priory Academy, described him as “intelligent, hardworking and popular”.

The tribute said that Mahmood was “a young man who was always considerate of his fellow human beings and showed ambition and kindness in everything he did.”

The academy said it was “with great sadness that it heard this news”, adding that Mr Mahmood's family were in its “thoughts and prayers” today.

It was added that Mr Mahmood, who left the school two years ago, “had a passion for geography as well as cricket”.

Lancashire Police confirmed on Wednesday that the boy who was sitting in the back seat of the car and whose name comes from the same school as Adam Bodi was also killed in the accident.

The Academy also paid tribute to Adam, saying he was a popular boy with a fantastic sense of humor.

The Academy expressed “its deepest condolences to Adam’s family and friends.”

A 17-year-old boy remains in stable condition in hospital.
