Who was Kristina Joksimovic?

Kristina Joksimovic, born in Binningen with Serbian roots, was a rising star in the Swiss modeling scene. She first gained fame after winning the title of Miss Northwestern Switzerland in 2003 and later became a finalist in the Miss Switzerland pageant in 2008.

Alongside her modeling career, Joksimovic worked full-time in IT recruitment. She later made a name for herself as a catwalk coach, helping aspiring models and businesswomen build confidence and improve their presence. Her Instagram account @catwalkcoach had over 3,500 followers.

Her notable achievements included training model Dominique Rinderknecht for the Miss Universe pageant, which she won in 2013.

The news of Kristina Joksimovic's tragic murder has left her friends stunned, with many expressing their sadness and leaving heartfelt messages on their Instagram posts.

Christa Rigozzi, winner of the Miss Switzerland 2006 pageant, wrote online: “No words, still sad. Rest in peace, my love.”

The winner of the Miss Switzerland 2018 election, Jastina Doreen Riederer, added: “Speechless. Rest in God's peace.”

Nadine Vinzens, who was crowned Miss Switzerland in 2002 and is a close friend of Kristina, told the Swiss news portal Nau.ch when she heard the devastating news: “I knew her well and met him briefly. I am completely shocked and heartbroken. Never in my life would I have thought that something like this would happen.”

According to the Daily MailJoksimovic married Thomas in 2017. The couple lived in a “spacious semi-detached house” in an affluent neighborhood in Basel.

Thomas, 41, was an entrepreneur and the couple had two daughters. Just weeks before her death, Kristina shared photos of a “couples vacation” on her Instagram account.

However, a friend revealed that their relationship had been “in crisis for months” and police had previously been called over reports of domestic violence, suggesting that their seemingly perfect life behind closed doors was far from ideal.

The cruel murder

According to Swiss news agency BZ BaselThe catwalk trainer was found dead by “third parties” in the laundry room of her apartment in February of this year.

After the police arrived, medical experts determined that Joksimovic had been strangled before her death. A further autopsy revealed shocking details.

It was said that her body was dismembered with a jigsaw, a knife and garden shears. Some of her body remains were later chopped with a hand blender, “pureed” and dissolved in a chemical solution, the Swiss media reported.

Authorities were appalled by the cruelty of the crime and arrested Thomas a day after Joksimovic's body was found. After his arrest, he confessed to the murder.

The 41-year-old told investigators during a crime reconstruction in March that he had acted in “self-defense” after his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife.

After the murder, he fell into a “state of panic” and began to dismember the former model’s body.

However, his claim that it was self-defense was refuted by forensic reports.

The investigators have found “concrete evidence of a mental illness” in Thomas and describe him as “sadistic-sociopathic”. FM1 today said.

They pointed to his “conspicuously high level of criminal energy, lack of empathy and cold-bloodedness” after the murder of his wife. The Federal Court in Lausanne rejected his application for release from prison on Wednesday.

During the trial, prosecutors also revealed that Thomas had previously strangled his wife. In addition, a former partner claimed that he once grabbed the beauty queen by the neck and slammed her head against a wall.

As investigations into the case that shocked Switzerland continue, officials are now trying to reconstruct the events that led to this gruesome crime.
