Trial of former US Army recruiter over death of his ex-wife

The trial of a former US Army recruiting officer begins. He is accused of killing his ex-wife and then going on the run.

The trial of John Tufton Blauvelt, 35, is scheduled to take place Monday in Greenville County Court of General Sessions on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the 2016 death of his estranged wife, Catherine “Cati” Blauvelt, 22. District Court Judge GD Morgan Jr. is presiding.

After the indictment, Blauvelt fled South Carolina and was classified as a deserter by the Army. U.S. Marshals arrested him six years later in Medford, Oregon.

Kinli Abee and John Meadors of the South Carolina Attorney General's Office will represent the prosecution. Public defenders Paul Neely and Anastasia Walker will represent Blauvelt. Neither attorney would comment on the upcoming trial.
