Ray Tanner, South Carolina's athletic director, resigns from his position

South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner will resign from his position, as confirmed in a telephone conference of the Board of Trustees on Friday morning.

Tanner will serve in his role until a new athletic director is hired, but after that he will assume a new title at the university and will officially be called “Senior Advisor to The President.” His responsibilities include advising the new athletic director, fundraising and other athletic department duties.

The new title will be valid until at least June 30, 2028, with the option to extend if both parties are satisfied with the outcome.

Tanner has served as South Carolina's athletic director since 2012, shortly after retiring as head coach of the baseball team.
