Man dies in accident in Pike County

A Columbus man was killed in a traffic accident in Pike County on Tuesday.

At 10:59 p.m., the Portsmouth office of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call about a serious traffic accident with two injuries on Ohio 220 near Progress Drive in Seal Township.

Anthony Hobbs, 52, of Columbus, was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima northbound on Ohio 220. After Hobbs veered off the right side of the road, he lost control of the vehicle, veered left-center and struck an oncoming southbound vehicle. Hobbs died of his injuries at the scene.

Joann Jackson, 53, of Beaver, was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus south on Ohio 220 and was struck in the southbound lane of Hobbs. She was taken to Adena-Pike Medical Center and later to Grant Hospital for her injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Pike County Sheriff's Office, Piketon Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Portsmouth Ambulance, Seal Township Fire Department and the Pike County Coroner's Office.
