The Carter County Sheriff's Office reports several arrests for violations, drug possession and assault

The Carter County Sheriff's Office reported the following arrests:

  • Tonya Lynn Fitzgerald was arrested on September 6 at 910 Fairview Road on a warrant out of Mitchell County, NC for violating the sex offender registry. She was charged with being a fugitive from justice.
  • Larry Paul Cole and Darroll C. Davis were both arrested on September 6 at Sinking Creek Baptist Church on separate warrants for probation violations. Both were transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.
  • On September 6, William “Bill” Atwood was arrested for violating his probation following a verbal altercation on Commodore Avenue. He was found hiding under a tarp and taken into custody without further issue.
  • Christine E. Bassett was arrested on September 8 at Sinking Creek Baptist Church on two warrants for probation violation. She was transported to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.
  • Sidney Charles Byers was arrested under the 19E bridge on September 8th after officers found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. Byers was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
  • Troy Elzie Clawson Jr. was arrested on September 8 after fleeing the scene of a domestic altercation. He was taken into custody on a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court on previous charges.
  • Angela D. Grindstaff was taken into custody on September 9 on multiple counts of identity theft and credit card fraud.
  • Rebecca Anna Sue Clawson was arrested on September 10 for aggravated burglary, assault and public intoxication after she forcibly entered a home and threatened the occupants.
  • Brooks Lynn Carver Jr. was charged with public intoxication on September 11 after behaving erratically while under the influence of drugs.
  • On September 11, Deputy Jeff Winters was dispatched to the Sullivan County Jail to take Ashlee Sue Townsend Branch, 32, into custody on a Carter County Criminal Court warrant (case number 24605) for a probation violation. Branch, who is being held without bail, was taken to the Carter County Detention Center without incident.
  • Jason Lee Nickles was arrested on September 11 for trespassing after he was found on property he had previously entered.
  • Caleb Michael Kidd was taken into custody on September 11 on a warrant for probation violation.
  • Trisha Marie McKinney Woods was arrested on September 11 for aggravated assault and vandalism after attacking a resident with an axe and causing property damage.
  • Matthew Isaiah Clow was arrested on September 12 for theft after he was caught stealing metal from a property on Garrison Hollow Road.
  • On September 12, Traffic Officer Kevin Kemp took Michael Lee Laboudy Sr. into custody before Sullivan County officials. Laboudy was arrested for violating a probation order and booked into the Carter County Detention Center without incident.
  • On September 12, Sergeant Steve Tipton arrested George Joshua Harrison on a warrant for a probation violation. Harrison was taken into custody by Johnson City Police Officers and transported to the Carter County Detention Center. Harrison is being held without bail.

Note: All those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
