Suspect arrested in fatal knife attack in Pleasanton: Police

PLEASANTON, CA — A 27-year-old woman was arrested in connection with a stabbing that killed a 32-year-old man in Pleasanton in May 2023, Pleasanton police said Friday morning. Police initially believed the victim, Edevion White, was killed by two male suspects wearing ski masks, but in August police announced they had received a significant tip with new information and asked for witness statements.

Kennedy Stith, 27, was arrested at her Oakland home on murder charges, Pleasanton police said. Police say she and White knew each other.

White was found stabbed to death in his home in the 5700 block of Owens Drive in Pleasanton on the morning of May 1. Witnesses initially told police they saw two masked suspects running from the scene, and White's girlfriend said one of the masked men held her captive while he attacked her boyfriend.

“However, during a year-long investigation, Pleasanton Detectives determined this claim to be untrue,” Pleasanton Police said Friday.

“The City of Pleasanton extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Edevion White, and we are working closely with them during this difficult time. We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation during this investigation and remain committed to keeping our community safe,” the department said. J

Pleasanton police said they were assisted by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, the California Department of Justice and the California Highway Patrol's Special Operations Unit.
