Trump takes action against David Muir for fact-checking during debate

Former President Donald Trump ABC news anchor attacked David Muir for checking his information regarding FBI crime statistics during the debate.

During a press conference in Southern California on Friday, Trump cited a moment from the debate in which Muir corrected Trump's remarks about migrant crime in the United States. The former president claimed that America was plagued by violent migrant crime, to which Muir responded during the debate: “As you know, the FBI says that violent crime overall in this country is declining.”

According to NBC News, data released by the FBI in June showed that violent and property crimes were down significantly compared to the same period last year. It's not unusual for a news anchor to cite FBI crime statistics and is widely considered an important benchmark for understanding national crime trends.

Trump addressed the moment when Muir fact-checked during his press statements on Friday, claiming the moderator was a “stupid asshole!”

Yesterday in breaking news: The Justice Department's leading statistics agency. Remember where? David Muir. He tried to correct me when I said crime was higher than ever. He said no. He said crime was going down. I said where are you from? And you know, you don't need a Bureau of Justice Statistics to know that crime is worse than ever.

And I guess you probably watched the debate and heard this stupid man, this stupid fool, make the statement to me that crime is not going to go down. The FBI said it was going to go down, and the FBI fooled everybody because they used statistics that didn't include some of the worst neighborhoods and cities. The actual numbers come from the Bureau of Justice Statistics and they just released them.

So I think they probably like me because they wanted to defend me. From people who aren't smart. From a guy who has nice hair, but to be honest, not as good as he did five years ago.
