Two teenagers arrested for reckless driving, weapons and drug possession

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut (WFSB) – Two teenagers were arrested in West Haven Thursday night.

West Haven police said one of their officers was patrolling the shoreline around 10:10 p.m., blocking off beach parking lots, when he noticed a Honda CRV in the parking lot.

“The officer then drove into the parking lot to inform them that the parking lot was closed. As the officer drove into the parking lot, he noticed the Honda driving toward him without its lights on,” police said in a statement.

The officer then tried to stop the car, but the driver sped past him and drove onto the road.

A short time later, the officer was able to stop the driver and arrest 19-year-old Jayden King of East Hartford.

He was accused of not turning on his headlights, failing to obey a police officer's signal and reckless driving.

The Honda's passenger, 18-year-old Darius Aquino of New London, was found to be in possession of a handgun with one bullet in the barrel, a high-capacity magazine with 39 bullets, and psilocybin mushrooms.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and possession of a high capacity magazine.

Aquino was ordered held on bail. Both Aquino and King are scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court.
