Former supervisor accused of stealing $100,000 in drug money from attorney general's office appears in court – WPXI

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pennsylvania – Brenda Sawyer remained silent as she entered District Court for her preliminary hearing this morning.

“She has no comment at this time, but we will conduct our preliminary hearing,” defense attorney Phil DiLucente said.

Sawyer, a former employee of the Attorney General's Office, is accused of stealing more than $100,000 worth of drugs and evidence from the Attorney General's Office and spending it at River's Casino.

She is also accused of stealing more than $50,000 from the McKeesport NAACP.

DiLucente declined to comment on the allegations and accusations made against her on Friday.

“For 29 years, she worked for the Attorney General's Office. She held a very powerful position called regional director. She took that job very, very seriously, and I think at a later date I'll have a lot more to say. A lot more to say,” DiLucente told Channel 11's Andrew Havranek.

Channel 11 had expected to hear further evidence from prosecutors and witnesses regarding these allegations against Sawyer in court on Friday, but her hearing was postponed after a two-and-a-half hour delay.

The judge had spent a full day of hearings and both sides requested a new date.

“This is going to be a very, very long hearing,” DiLucente said.

DiLucente said that was because the Attorney General's Office and the NAACP were involved in the investigation.

“It's a case with extensive documentation, which is partly why we need to conduct a very thorough hearing,” DiLucente said.

Sawyer has been released from prison on bail and is expected back in court in November.
