Instagram model arrested on ‘pink cocaine’ after fatal car crash in Miami: Video

Recently released body camera footage shows the arrest of a social media model accused of causing a fatal car crash in downtown Miami last month; she was under the influence of a mixture of substances known as “pink cocaine.”

Maecee Marie Lathers, 24, was arrested shortly after the 7 a.m. crash on Aug. 10 in which her Mercedes collided with a Range Rover and a Suzuki, local station WTVJ-TV reported. Two people were killed and two others were injured.

The Instagram model with over 13,000 followers is charged with 10 felony counts, including negligent homicide, reckless driving, driving without a license, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run, court records show.

According to WTVJ-TV, Lathers told police she had taken Tusi, a party drug also known as pink cocaine, during her arrest. Police said Lathers also claimed to have a crystal ball and to be from the future. Prosecutors later released a toxicology report that found several drugs in her system, but no alcohol.

The Miami Gardens resident was placed under house arrest after posting bail, the station reported, but was returned to jail after two counts of manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol were added to her charges at a court hearing on Tuesday.

USA TODAY reached out to Lathers' attorney for comment but did not receive an immediate response as of Friday evening.

Video shows Lathers screaming during arrest

In body camera footage released by Miami police to several media outlets, Lathers can be seen topless and breathing heavily on the ground after the August 10 accident.

You can see her screaming and making confused voices while she is handcuffed by the police.

“She's on Tusi. That's what she just said,” an officer said in the video. “She says something like, 'Oh, I'm from the future.'”

According to the Miami Herald, bystanders said Lathers was kept from the scene of the accident. When officers arrived, they found her vomiting.

What is Tusi or pink cocaine?

Tusi, or 2C, is a pink powder that contains psychoactive substances such as ketamine, MDMA (ecstasy), methamphetamine and opioids, according to a report published last year in the National Center For Biotechnology Information by Joseph J. Palamar, a professor at New York University.

Despite its name, the drug rarely contains real cocaine, the report says.

Bags containing a powder called tusi, or pink cocaine, are pictured in Medellin, Colombia, April 2, 2022.

“The Tusi phenomenon also has the potential to complicate drug research because unknown exposure to drugs such as ketamine and MDMA will lead to underreporting of their use,” Palamar wrote.

Tusi is short for “Tusibi” and is also known as “Tucibi” or “Tucibi,” NewsNation reported. The synthetic drug reportedly originates from Colombia and is sold illegally in the United States.

Abraham Ismael and Jesus Rubio killed in car crash

Abraham Ismael and Jesus Rubio were killed in the accident for which Lathers is accused, the Miami Herald reported.

Ismael, father of a teenage son, was driving to work in a Suzuki with his fiancée Juanita Hernandez and friend Rubio when the accident happened. First responders extricated Ismael from the wreckage and he died at a local hospital, while Rubio was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Miami Herald.
