Brantley Francis Foundation receives proceeds from QC Burger sales to fight childhood cancer

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – When three-year-old Brantley Francis lost his battle with cancer in 2017, his family started a pediatric cancer foundation in his name that has helped dozens of local children fighting for their lives.

Brantley's father, Matt Francis, shares memories of his beautiful, brave son and the mission of the Brantley Francis Foundation, which includes accomplishing several goals, such as funding a donor room on the 11th floor of Stead Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City, providing $100,000 to Dana Farber Children's Hospital for germ cell tumor research and providing 500 families with BFF bags.

During September (Childhood Cancer Awareness Month), there is a fundraiser where the public can help by donating a Baconzilla burger at Checkers restaurants in the Quad Cities area. The Brantley Francis Foundation will receive $1 for each Baconzilla sold.

There were several reasons for the decision to create this nonprofit organization. One was that the family had received so much support from friends, relatives, and other foundations/organizations that they wanted to “give back.” The other reason: childhood cancer is the leading cause of death in children under 19 in the United States. Yet, despite these statistics, the National Cancer Institute only spends 4% of its annual budget on fighting childhood cancer.
