Suspect arrested for strangulation and assault of child shortly after incident | Local news

On September 4, at approximately 1 a.m., officers from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department responded to the area of ​​Old Farm Road and Riverview Court for a non-domestic violence assault.

According to a press release from Police Chief C. Shane Guyant, officers learned that the accused had fled the scene prior to their arrival. The victim was found to have been strangled and held against his will in a residence. A child (under the age of 12) who was in the residence was also assaulted. The victim was also denied access to a phone to call 911 during the assault.

Officers searched the area and located the suspect, Vaughn Price, 57, of Roanoke Rapids. Price refused to comply with officers' requests to surrender but was eventually taken into custody. Officer M. Morris charged Vaughn with aggravated assault by strangulation, resisting a public official, false imprisonment, battery on a female, interference with a communication device, criminal damage to property, battery on a child over 12, and petty domestic violence.

Price was held at the Halifax County Detention Center on $75,000 bail and is scheduled for court on September 26.
