Man arrested after collision with patrol car and possession of narcotics

KILLINGWORTH, CT (WFSB) – A man was arrested after hitting a patrol car during a traffic stop early Friday morning and possessing narcotics.

State police said troopers were called to a vehicle stopped in the left lane on Route 2 near Exit 10 in Glastonbury at around 1:28 a.m.

When emergency services arrived, the vehicle driven by 34-year-old Zachary Whitehead of Killingworth fled at high speed through a busy construction site.

Whitehead was able to elude police until they attempted to corner him near Old Hartford Road in Hebron.

To avoid being trapped, he rammed a patrol car, disabling both his own vehicle and the patrol car.

Whitehead fled on foot before being caught by a police officer. After a struggle with police, he was arrested.

During his arrest, he was searched and officers discovered drugs and narcotics. Several narcotics were clearly visible in the vehicle, which led to a search.

They found 328.7 grams of mushrooms, 100 blue round oxycodone pills (30 mg each), 120 wax folds containing heroin and fentanyl, 70 Xanas pills, 40 orange round 30 mg pills and 16 orange oval 30 mg Adderall pills, 177.4 grams of powder cocaine, 11.8 grams of crystal meth, 104 individual dosage units of Suboxone strips and 41 dosage units of THC for vaping.

He was charged with numerous charges, including obstructing an officer, reckless driving, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs/alcohol.

He is being held on $250,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on September 16.
