Police at the scene of a reported murder in Harrisburg

UPDATE |Harrisburg police said they responded to reports of shots fired at a home on North 14th Street around 5 p.m.

They said when they arrived they saw that a man was dead after being shot.

He was surrounded by his family, who were then evacuated from the house for their safety, police said.

They also evacuated a neighboring home, but were unable to safely evacuate the rest of the home, so they had to call in the Dauphin County Emergency Response Team.

Then smoke bombs went off. At around 9 p.m. loud bangs could also be heard.

“There was some confusion out here because fireworks were also being set off at the same time. Inside the building, we used less lethal tactics, so some of the bangs may have come from that,” said Captain Atah Akakpo-Martin of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police.

Police said no one else was found in the building at the time of the search.

The identity and whereabouts of the suspect are currently unknown.

No one was taken into custody.

The police stated that there is currently no danger to the public.

At 11 p.m., the coroner was still on site processing evidence and examining the house.

UPDATE | City officials have confirmed that the incident is a homicide.

The victim is a man; the incident was reported on Friday evening at around 5:50 p.m.

The police have been on site for several hours.
