Game Thread #147: Milwaukee Brewers (84-62) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (82-64)

After winning two of three games in San Francisco, the Milwaukee Brewers continue their NL West tour (this is their third consecutive series against an NL West opponent!) tonight in Phoenix, where they will face the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Brewers and Diamondbacks have not yet faced each other this season; instead, they will play seven games over the next ten days. Arizona, of course, knocked out the Brewers in the Wild Card round of last postseason. Like last year, they have been inconsistent this season, but they are on a roll when it counts; on July 22, they were 51-50. Today, they are 82-64. This run roughly coincides with Corbin Carroll's reminder that he is one of baseball's best players alive.

Tonight, the Diamondbacks send Eduardo Rodríguez to the mound. He's had a weird couple of years; if you recall, the Dodgers agreed to a trade to get him from Detroit, but he turned it down before signing with Arizona as a free agent. But he was sidelined by shoulder problems in spring training and didn't make his season debut until August 7. Being thrown into the season without much preparation usually ends poorly, and Rodríguez has a 5.83 ERA and a 4.84 FIP in six starts.

For the Brewers, it's Freddy Peralta's turn today. He had a typically frustrating Peralta game against the Rockies last Saturday, and although he left the game (against his will) with the score tied 1-1 with two outs and two bases loaded in the fifth inning, he was credited with two additional runs when Hoby Milner allowed a home run to the next batter. Peralta can't be too disappointed — his inability to finish hitters and innings has given Milwaukee fans and coaches ulcers this summer.

Jackson Chourio, who last night became the youngest 20/20 player in league history, will once again start as the first batter, something he has done regularly lately. Garrett Mitchell remains in the second position as he did yesterday, but perhaps even more notable is that he now does so against the left-handed Rodríguez.

First pitch at 8:40 p.m. CT on Bally Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
