Police identify suspect in fatal shooting outside Hoyt Library | Crime

Investigators believe 38-year-old Derrick Grant shot his brother-in-law on Tuesday evening.



SAGINAW, Michigan (WJRT) – Police have identified the suspect accused of shooting his brother-in-law outside the Hoyt Library in Saginaw Tuesday night.

Court records show that 38-year-old Derrick Grant is charged with murder and other charges in connection with the shooting death of Henry Ford of Bridgeport Township. Ford worked as a security guard at the library on Janes Avenue.


Investigators said Grant shot Ford several times in the parking lot outside the library around 5:45 p.m. Police did not release a motive for the shooting, which was captured on surveillance video.

According to court documents, Grant is Ford's brother-in-law.

Grant was already named on an arrest warrant for aggravated assault in a previous case in July. After his arraignment at the Saginaw County Jail, he remained in custody without bail offered.
