Fever rookie Caitlin Clark breaks WNBA single-season assists record

Two months after breaking the WNBA record for most assists in a game, Caitlin Clark has now set the record for most assists in a season.

Indiana Fever phenomenon Caitlin Clark continues to rewrite the WNBA record books.

Clark set the WNBA record for assists in a season on Friday night when she scored her 317th goal of the season in a match against the Las Vegas Aces, surpassing the record set last season by Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun.

With less than five minutes left, Clark threw a throw-in to the onrushing Kelsey Mitchell, who rushed to the basket and sank a layup – her fifth assist of the night.

Most assists in a season, WNBA history

322 – Caitlin Clark (38 games in 2024)
316 – Alyssa Thomas (40 games in 2023)
314 – Courtney Vandersloot (39 games in 2023)
300 – Courtney Vandersloot (33 games in 2019)
291 – Chelsea Gray (40 games in 2023)

Clark, who scored all 18 points in the second half, finished with eight rebounds and nine assists as Las Vegas defeated Indiana 78-74.

She accomplished this feat less than two months after setting the single-game assists record (19) in a loss to the Dallas Wings. Clark also broke the rookie record (Ticha Penicheiro had 225 in 1998) and the franchise record (Erica Wheeler had 201 in 2023) earlier this year.

Clark, the No. 1 overall pick out of Iowa in the 2024 WNBA Draft, is averaging 19.1 points and a league-best 8.4 assists, as well as 5.8 rebounds.
