Suspect arrested in shooting and killing man in west Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspect was arrested for shooting a man in west Phoenix last month.

On August 27 at around 5:15 p.m., Phoenix Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting near 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road.

When officers arrived, they found a man at the end of an alley with multiple gunshot wounds. Two women attempted to help the man before officers arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died.

While searching the crime scene, police found surveillance video that showed the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Jose Luis McInturf, fleeing the scene.

Witnesses told police that after the victim was shot, a woman in a white car stopped, got out, got back in the car and drove away.

Officers later stopped her and said she saw McInturf, whom she called Fat Boy, running from the scene. She later said she helped the victim and then drove away to tell the victim's girlfriend what happened.

A neighbor told police he did not witness the first shooting but saw McInturf pick up a black gun with his right hand while holding another gun in his left hand before shooting the victim again.

The neighbor said he followed McInturf in his car and filmed him from behind.

Investigators also spoke to the victim's girlfriend, who told them her boyfriend went out to buy drinks while she was cooking.

She said she heard the gunshots ten minutes later. The woman told police she believed Fat Boy was the one who shot her boyfriend.

She told police the two men got into an argument the night before the shooting. Investigators said they showed the woman a photo of McInturf and she identified him as Fat Boy.

When police checked McInturf's criminal record, they found that he had previous felony charges and was not allowed to possess a gun.

Police arrested McInturf at his parents' home in Phoenix on Thursday.

When questioned by police, McInturf said he had not spoken to the victim in months and did not know he was dead.

He was shown the surveillance photo of himself and when asked where he was going, he replied he was just jogging, court documents show.

The police then explained to him all the charges against him. When they mentioned armed robbery, he allegedly asked why.

Officers then stated that he took the victim's gun and shot him with it. His only response, according to court documents, was “Okay.”

McInturf was sent to prison for first-degree murder, armed robbery and weapons misuse.

His bail was set at one million dollars in cash.
