Teofimo Lopez wants a fight against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in December

Teofimo Lopez appeared at the weigh-in for Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga on Friday to take advantage of the schedule to challenge Gervonta “Tank” Davis and other big-name fighters he will rarely face.

Teofimo is really thirsty. Tank Davis will not fight Teofimo as the two are too far apart in weight and he has more popular fighters at his disposal. Teofimo has not performed well in his last fights against Steve Claggett, Jamaine Ortiz, Sandor Martin and Pedro Campa.

WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21-1, 13 KOs) has volunteered to be WBA lightweight champion Gervonta's next opponent on December 14.

Teofimo's approach when challenging Tank sounded like he was begging him for his pay, and that doesn't bode well for his career.

For Teofimo, it's about money, as he rehydrates to nearly 160 pounds for his fights at 140 pounds and shouldn't be fighting anyone at 135. If Teofimo wants to test himself against a lightweight, he should prove himself by fighting William Zepeda or Andy Cruz.

It is unclear why Teofimo waited so long to challenge him. He should have done so after Vasily Lomachenko announced that he would take the rest of the year off and would not be available to fight Tank in November or December.

According to promoter Leonard Ellerbe, Tank is already considering two fighters for his next fight. One of them is rumored to be Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela, who knocked off WBA light welterweight champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz on August 3.

“Hey, Tank, give me a fight, brother. He ain't fighting, I ain't fighting. What's going on? I don't like it when people say I'm dodging somebody. Why am I hitting him? Because I'm the takeover, that's why,” Teofimo Lopez told the media, challenging Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Teofimo is too big to return to lightweight and fight Tank Davis. He would probably try it for the money, but he would be in bad shape if he made the weight. If Tank fought Teofimo, he would probably insist on a rehydration clause to ensure Teo doesn't move up to middleweight.
