TOPEKA, Kan. – A federal jury has convicted a Kansas man of assault with a deadly weapon following an incident at a U.S. Army base, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

In November 2023, 24-year-old Jordan Thompson assaulted an adult male victim in Fort Riley.

According to court documents and evidence, Thompson was involved in a domestic dispute with his estranged wife. He threatened the victim, who was at the child's mother's home, with a 9mm handgun and then left the home with the minor. The incident prompted authorities to issue an Amber Alert.

Thompson is scheduled to be sentenced on December 12. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. A federal district judge will determine the sentence, taking into account U.S. sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
