Madison, Indiana resident arrested in massive drug raid

As part of the investigation into a drug ring, more than a dozen people were arrested on serious drug charges in Madison, Indiana.

MADISON, Indiana – More than two dozen people have been arrested in a major drug raid between southern Indiana and Kentucky.

Many of the Indiana residents charged in the investigation were from Madison, Indiana.

“This was probably one of the largest and most coordinated drug raids,” Madison Mayor Bob Courtney said Friday. Courtney said residents of the historic city were shocked and relieved after a months-long drug investigation landed 25 people in jail.

“Yesterday was a great victory for our community. It should slow down the drug trade in our community for a while,” he added.

Police said the investigation – dubbed Operation Iceberg – began eight months ago when authorities discovered that Christopher Dorten was a major meth supplier in Jefferson County, Indiana.

“We’re going after the dealers on a larger scale,” said Stephen Wheeles, sergeant with the Indiana State Police.

Dorten has also been linked to sales in Louisville. Police said Dorten traveled to Louisville at least 65 times to get meth and cocaine from Darren Richardson. Police said Richardson, 34, was arrested last month on a warrant for conspiracy to traffic meth and cocaine.

Richardson is currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections awaiting extradition to Indiana.

“Who knows who else the people in Louisville distributed drugs to?” Wheeles said. “But maybe we stopped that.”

Michelle Childress of Madison was also arrested during a search of her home, an alleged location where Dorten conducted drug deals. The other 22 arrests were made Wednesday.

“There is no community in the entire United States, including Indiana, that is immune to drug abuse and related crime,” Courtney said.

Police said Operation Iceberg was still ongoing.
