Community honors victims of murder-suicide with balloon launch in Alamo Park

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – It's been nearly a week since 33-year-old Jessica Rose Olmos and her two children were killed in a murder-suicide.

Today the community of Amarillo came together to celebrate her life.

Family, friends and loved ones came to Alamo Park to release balloons in memory of the deceased family.

High school teammates of one of the victims came to remember Jessica and her children and celebrate their lives.

“She is missing from the team, the team is not complete without her and we really miss her a lot. We have a meet on Saturday so we will try to do something nice for her,” said Abbi Mohamad, teammate at Palo Duro High School.

Handwritten notes on balloons contained messages to the victims.

“So we wrote #WeRunForJazale on the balloons because being part of the cross country team, we just want to remember the way we ran for them,” said Jaily Delacruz, teammate at Palo Duro High School.

That day was marked by both joy and sadness over the lives senselessly lost.

“I honestly don't know what to think about it because I'm sad, it's sad. I'm glad so many people came here today to celebrate her and everything,” said Emma Rodarte, her wrestling teammate.

Family and friends say they will miss Jessica and her children every day.

Hundreds of pink, purple, white and turquoise balloons were released into the air for the family.
