A woman was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a rollover accident near Woodstock that seriously injured three other people, some of whom were thrown from the vehicle.

The incident occurred on May 27 at approximately 2:07 a.m. in the 11200 block of Charles Road in the unincorporated community of Woodstock.

Alex Vucha, communications specialist for the Woodstock Fire and Rescue District, said at the time that firefighters arrived within six minutes to find a single-vehicle rollover accident.

At the time of the accident, there were four passengers in the car, two of whom were apparently thrown out.

Vucha said one of the passengers was trapped in the car and another managed to free himself.

Within four minutes, firefighters freed the trapped passenger and began medical treatment.

According to Vucha, four rescue helicopters were requested, but all were rejected due to weather conditions.

The four victims were taken by ambulance to local hospitals with serious to critical injuries, Vucha said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi sedan, 18-year-old Nayana A. Morales-Williams of Woodstock, was charged in June with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Late last month, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office completed its investigation into the accident and the charge was upgraded to a felony.

According to court records, Morales-Williams was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily harm.

A warrant was issued for her arrest and she was taken into custody last week.

McHenry County Judge Carl Metz released Morales-Williams from custody after prosecutors failed to request a stay of her trial.

The judge ordered Morales-Williams to refrain from consuming alcohol or drugs, to undergo a drug screening and to not drive any vehicle that is not equipped with an alcohol ignition interlock device.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 19.
