Ducks-Beavers rivalry game at Reser Stadium sells out for first time since 2019 | News

The city of Corvallis prepares for the Ducks and Beavers rivalry game on Saturday, April 14, 2024.

CORVALLIS, Oregon – The long-awaited rivalry game between the University of Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers is causing great concern in the city of Corvallis.

The rivalry between the two teams is legendary and every year this game is on the calendar. In recent years, however, Reser Stadium has not been as popular as it once was. The COVID-19 pandemic and the renovation of Reser kept attendance low. This year, however, the stadium is sold out for the first time since 2019, much to the delight of Beaver fans like Nathan Lovings.

“We're Beavers through and through. You know, we won here last time, had a few problems last year, but I think we can come back,” he said.

The atmosphere in the stadium will be incredible, according to fans. Many, like Cameron McGovern, were upset by the restructuring of the Pac-12 conference.

“I'm a little disappointed about it, but it's going to be interesting, so we'll see how it plays out and hopefully things will change here soon, I don't know,” he said.

Duck fans in Corvallis are also happy to see the rivalry continue. If there's one thing the Ducks and Beavers agree on, it's the importance of tradition, as James Ellie confirms.

“It's fun, it's competitive, it's close and local, it's mixed, your neighbor might be a Duck fan or a Beaver fan, you know, it's just fun,” he said.

Ellie is a Duck fan and has every confidence that the Ducks will beat the Beavers. The stores in Corvallis are also looking forward to the sold-out game. Morgan Orr, owner of the Brass Monkey, knows it's going to be a long day. She's stocking up and getting her staff ready, and trying to find a balance between the two teams she loves.

“I was born a duck, I went to Oregon State, now I'm a platypus. There's a sign on the front door that says everyone is welcome here, and anyone who walks through those doors with love is welcome here,” she said.

Other bars, like the Downward Dog, show their loyalty to the team more clearly. They're Beaver country and expect patrons to walk out the door on game day.
