Man faces two charges after Charleston police investigate reported brawl and shooting

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Charleston police have filed charges against a man after responding to a call reporting “fighting and gunfire” Saturday morning.

Joseph Spencer Hiers, 32, was charged with first-degree assault and possession of marijuana with intent to resell.

Officers said they were called to the scene on Stinson Drive around 12:50 a.m. Saturday.

According to Charleston Police Sergeant Terry Cherry, officers identified a suspect's vehicle and stopped it. They then arrested and charged one of the occupants.

Hiers is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on $55,000 bail.
