Jane's Addiction concert ends after Perry Farrell dispute

A scuffle broke out between members of the groundbreaking alternative rock band Jane's Addiction during their reunion tour amid “tension and hostility,” the wife of lead singer Perry Farrell said on Saturday.

The band is known for their edgy, punk-inspired hits “Been Caught Stealing” and “Mountain Song” from the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the alternative rock and grunge movements were on the rise.

In videos posted on social media from Friday night's concert in Boston, Farrell, 65, can be seen singing loudly into his microphone before lunging at guitarist Dave Navarro, shoulder-butting him and then striking him with his right arm. Navarro extends his right arm to keep Farrell at bay before he is dragged away by others on stage. The show ended shortly afterward.

“Perry's frustration grew night after night. He felt that the volume on stage was extremely high and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” Etty Lau Farrell wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday morning.

She said her husband suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat and “at the end of the song he was no longer singing but screaming just to be heard.” She said her husband later burst into tears “and cried and cried.”

The band's “Imminent Redemption” tour began in early August and includes 15 more dates, including a show in Connecticut on Sunday night.

The band has not yet commented on the further continuation of the tour.
