Horry County man accused of exchanging gunfire with police faces 15 charges

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Records show a man accused of exchanging gunfire with police in Horry County earlier this week now faces more than a dozen charges.

Authorities said 60-year-old Neil Wade Brown was arrested after an incident on South Reindeer Road just after 9 p.m. Thursday. Documents obtained by WMBF News show that officers with the Horry County Sheriff's Department were called to a home and found Brown along with two people shot.

The South Carolina Department of Police said that at some point, Brown and the officers exchanged shots, but no one was hit. Brown was eventually arrested after a standoff and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Friday morning.

Brown's prison records were updated Saturday and show the following charges:

  • 4 cases of serious bodily harm
  • 4 cases of displaying and presenting a firearm
  • 2 cases of firing firearms into a dwelling
  • 2 cases of possession of weapons during a violent crime
  • 1 case of first degree burglary
  • 1 count of breach of the peace
  • 1 case of severe domestic violence

Online records show Brown has been held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center since Saturday and no bail has been set.
